We Celebrate Love, But What Is Love?

Rose in our backyard summer 2018

Hello everyone!  I didn’t write a post yesterday because I have been spending time taking in what the Lord did for my wife and praising Him.  Even though the Lord has done so many amazing miracles in my life before, it is still a bit overwhelming when He moves in power like that.  You are awesome God!  Thank You Jesus!  The Lord has strengthened our family greatly and we are at peace.  He helped me take it all in and He moved in my heart this morning to get back to writing.  When the Lord does a miracle, we praise Him, then keep moving forward in Him!  So, Valentine’s Day is tomorrow and millions (possibly billions) of people around the world will be celebrating love.  There is just one problem.  Most of us don’t even know what love truly is.  We can only discover what love truly is when we look to the One who created us.

Why is that?  Because the Word of God, the Bible, teaches us that God is love.  If you want to know love, then you need to know God.  The One who created you.  The lover of your soul!  In order to know God, then you need to know Jesus who is God in human flesh and the manifestation of God’s love for the whole world!

“And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.  If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God.  And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.  God is love.  Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.”

1 John 4:14-16

How do we know God loves us?  Because He came to earth to die for us, so we could be with Him in Heaven forever!  Jesus is the only One who ever died for our sins to be forgiven!

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

John 3:16

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.  And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers.”

1 John 3:16

“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Romans 5:8

Jesus is true love folks!  What He did for us on that cross is true love!  We celebrate love because God is love and love comes from God!  God loves us, so He makes it very clear what love is in His Word.  He wants us to love each other in this way!  The most excellent way!

“…And now I will show you the most excellent way.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.  If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.  If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient, love is kind.  It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.  It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.  Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Love never fails…”

1 Corinthians 12:31, 13:1-8

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love.  But the greatest of these is love.”

1 Corinthians 13:13

Now you truly know what love is!  It is also crucial to remember that because God is love, He is also all of those attributes of love that the Apostle Paul wrote about.  That definition of love is who God is.  That is the very essence of His character!  God is patient, God is kind.  He does not envy, He does not boast, He is not proud.  God is not rude, He is not self-seeking, He is not easily angered, He keeps no record of wrongs.  God does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  God always protects, God always trusts, God always hopes, God always perseveres.  God never fails!  Faith, hope, and God remain, but the greatest of those is God!

As we celebrate love, may we celebrate the One who gave us love and praise His Holy Name!  We know what love is because Jesus died for us!  It is God’s love that sets us free and that my friends is a true love worth celebrating!

Grace and peace to you all in the loving Name of Jesus!

Weary & Burdened

Pic quote Matthew 11 v 28 stars

Weary and burdened.  Those are two words that describe how billions of people on this earth feel.  This world throws a lot at us and that is an understatement.  No matter where you live we all go through trouble.  As life goes on, the challenges we face can wear us down and we feel as though we are carrying a heavy weight on our shoulders.  Do you feel weary and burdened right now?  Do you ever feel like giving up?  Jesus knew people were hurting under the weight of their troubles.  He knows our worries, shame, and guilt tear at our souls.  I have great news!  Jesus offered to take our burdens and give us rest for our souls!

Is that not what we all want, rest for our souls?!  Amen!  To have a deep peace that can only come from God flowing inside of you is a rest too beautiful for words!  We all need that rest.  We all desperately want to have peace instead of the raging turmoil of a soul separated from God.  We were created to have that rest and be at peace with God!

We enter that rest for our souls through faith in Jesus Christ.  He is the only One who ever died for us, so we could be reconciled with God.  He offers you forgiveness of all your sins and He will wash you clean by the power of the Holy Spirit!  Jesus is gentle and humble in heart and He is trustworthy!  You will have His peace inside your soul and you will enter His most glorious rest just as He promised!

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Jesus in Matthew 11:28-30

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!  All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men’s sins against them.  And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.”

2 Corinthians 5:17-19

You might ask, how can this be?  We have God’s peace and rest by the power of the Holy Spirit, who you receive the moment you confess your faith in Jesus!  The Holy Spirit empowers us with the fruits of the Spirit that enable us to live righteously in His peace.  That is how our souls are at rest!  We are forgiven and free by the Blood of the Lamb and our sins have been washed away like the morning mist!

“And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation.  Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession–to the praise of his glory.”

Ephesians 1:13-14

“Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them.  And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.”

1 John 3:24

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.  Against such things there is no law.”

Galatians 5:22-23

We are all weary and burdened at some point in our lives.  Come to Jesus today!  He will give you rest for your soul and not count your sins against you!  I can’t fully explain what it’s like to have all of those fruits of the Holy Spirit flowing inside of me.  God’s peace is so beautiful!  Every day I see those fruits manifest in my life and the lives of my wife and children no matter what trouble comes our way!  Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self-control.  We have all of these Holy gifts from God in the Name of Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit!  He offers this peace and rest to you too!  He offers it to the whole world!

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.  I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

Jesus in John 14:27

The peace of Jesus is eternal and He promises you eternal life and rest for your soul!  Do you want that peace flowing through your soul?  Receive Jesus by faith and let Him do a new thing in your life!  Let Him save you and give you His peace!

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”

Jesus in John 3:16

“That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Romans 10:9

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God–not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Ephesians 2:8-9

If you do not know Jesus, I pray you enter into His rest today!  For those of you who do know Jesus, remember to continue in His rest every day.  He has given us true rest for our souls!  How sweet and good it is to walk with the Lord!

“I have swept away your

offenses like a cloud,

your sins like the morning

Return to me,

for I have redeemed you.”

Isaiah 44:22

Grace and peace to you all!

Thank you all for your prayers for my wife and our family!  We can feel the power of your prayers and we are lifted up and standing strong!  God bless you all!

Prayer Request For My Wife 2-7-19

Family vacation in San Diego June 2018

Hello friends and family!  It has been quite a week!  Earlier this week we were very thankful to receive an amazing financial blessing and we are still praising God for that.  Yesterday, my wife went to the doctor for a follow up on some tests she had done.  She has been having health issues that she has never had before in her life.  The doctor told her the tests showed that it could be something not so serious or it could be cancerous.  She might have to have a hysterectomy either way.  This is hard news for our family.  We have been through so much suffering and we need your prayers.

Please pray that my wife is healed.  Pray that she does not and will never have cancer!  Pray in the power of the Holy Spirit over my wife and family in the Name of Jesus!

We are trusting in God that He has good plans for us and we know He is with us in this.  My wife will have a biopsy done soon and we will go from there.  We have been through so much together that our faces our like flint against the troubles of this world.  At this point, I feel like a boxer who gets punched in the face and just keeps moving forward.  The Lord alone is our strength and our song!  He alone is our joy and shield!

“Because the Sovereign Lord helps me, I will not be disgraced.  Therefore have I set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame.”

Isaiah 50:7

and my song;

Psalm 118:14

I know my wife will read this today–I love you so much honey!  You will have the power of hundreds of strong believers worldwide praying for you now!  Jesus has never left us even for a moment and I know you rest and trust in Him.  Your faith is so encouraging!  I love you with all my heart!

Thank you all for your prayers and support!  Our lives are in His hands and we are His children whom He loves more than we can imagine!

Grace and peace to you all!

Colorado Mountain Lion Attack

Mountain lion
Colorado Mountain Lion

I wanted to share some amazing news with you from our state of Colorado.  Monday afternoon a man from Fort Collins was attacked by a mountain lion while running the trails in the foothills.  He survived and he ended up killing the lion…with his bare hands!  Phenomenal!  First of all, I wouldn’t go jogging in the foothills and if I did, I would definitely have my good ol’ .45 with me.  We even have mountain lions come through our neighborhood sometimes and I always carry when I take the kids to the parks and trails around here.  This story reminds me that we have an enemy that hunts us just like a lion.  It also reminds me to fight back with all my heart just like this man from Fort Collins did!

Denver Post News Article: “Colorado trail runner attacked by mountain lion choked cat to death with hands, arms, and feet”

Mountain lions generally attack from behind.  Sometimes they attack from the ground and sometimes they attack from a high point like a tree or boulder.  Most people who grow up here know that if you encounter an aggressive lion, then you put your arms up  high to make yourself look bigger and also throw rocks and scream at it.  If that doesn’t work, we are taught to fight for our lives!  Once that big cat decides to attack, the only option you have is to fight back.  If you don’t, then unless a miracle happens, you die.

It is truly amazing this guy killed the lion with his bare hands.  It was young, but they are still big and strong even at a young age.  Adults can be huge and weigh around 150 pounds.  I have encountered mountain lions three times: once at the YMCA in Estes Park, once camping near Aspen, and once I caught a glimpse of one stalking a man walking his dogs in the woods here in our neighborhood (life stories for another day).  I even saw a dead one while taking a bathroom break off the side of the road in the mountains.  The “experts” always say encounters and attacks are rare, but there are a lot of them in our mountains and people see them all the time.  People who spend time in the wilds of the Rockies know the truth.  They are beautiful and scary at the same time.

Remember, we have been given weapons and armor that God wants us to use when our enemy the devil attacks like a lion (Ephesians 6:10-18).  Prayer, praise, and God’s Word are all weapons of righteousness and our faith in Jesus is a mighty shield to defeat every attack the evil one throws at us!  It doesn’t matter if he pounces on us from behind as we are going about our day and it doesn’t matter where it happens!  Stand strong and fight!  Right there in the grocery store or at your job or wherever you are.  If you find yourself in the midst of a vicious surprise attack, then take a moment and pray right then and there!  You don’t have to do it out loud in public.  Just fight back by giving God your heart, soul, and mind and giving the battle to Him!  The Lord will fight for us by the power of the Holy Spirit and we will overcome every attack of that old prowling lion!

Just like how we live here in Colorado, be ready and stay alert!  I fully expect that we could encounter a mountain lion on the trails and in the woods in our neighborhood, so I take steps to deal with that.  I am very thankful for the weapons and training God gave me to protect myself and my family.  I am not going to let my kids get eaten by a lion!

We should always be ready and prayed up in the Spirit like a soldier ready for battle.  The fight might not come that day, but we all know our enemy is always waiting to pounce and we don’t live in fear.  We are strong and ready in the Holy Spirit of God and we are covered by the blood of Jesus Christ!

The shield of faith will protect you! (Ephesians 6:16)

Fight back with God’s Word, which is your sword! (Ephesians 6:17)

Fight back with praise! (Psalm 28:7, Psalm 51:12)

Fight back with prayer! (Ephesians 6:18)

We are already victorious in Christ and we have overcome the world (John 16:33)!

“Be self-controlled and alert.  Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.  Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.  To him be the power for ever and ever.  Amen.”

1 Peter 5:8-11

Grace and peace to you all!

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”

Ephesians 6:10-11

I pray that man from Fort Collins is healed of his wounds quickly and I pray he comes to know the Lord if he doesn’t already.  He had a serious brush with death and he is a blessed man to be alive!  If you ever read this sir, God bless you!  I’m glad you defeated the attack and survived!  God was with you in power that day and I want you to know, Jesus truly does love you!

Shouts Of Joy & Victory!

Pic quote Psalm 118 v 15

I want to stop and give mighty praise to God today!  My wife and I have been praying for financial blessing and the Lord answered us in a big way!  Thank you all for your prayers too!  We all have trouble in this life.  Jesus promised us that.  He also encouraged us to take heart because He has overcome the world!  When we know Jesus, the trouble doesn’t last for long because He always comes to our rescue!  Truly, just like the Bible says, shouts of joy and victory resound in our home because of the mighty things the Lord has done for us!  Hallelujah!!!

Whatever you are going through, don’t give up!  If you know Jesus, then you are righteous by His blood shed for you and you have the power of the Holy Spirit!  No matter what troubles you face in this world, there will be shouts of joy and victory in your home because you have overcome this world through Christ!  Lift Him up and praise Him today and thank Him ahead of time that He will give you the joy and victory over your troubles!

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.  In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart!  I have overcome the world.”

Jesus speaking in John 16:33

Thank You Jesus for all You have done for us!

Grace and peace to you all in the joyful and victorious Name of Jesus!

My Son’s Sermon

Pic quote John 11 v 25 son

Hello everyone!  Hope you are enjoying a peaceful Sunday.  I talked with my son yesterday about writing a sermon for my blog.  He was very excited to do it and he ran upstairs and wrote a very encouraging word in the power of the Holy Spirit!  I did not give him any direction on what to write.  This is straight from the heart of an 8 year old believer in Jesus!  May it be a blessing to you all!

My Son’s Sermon:

Dear everyone,

When you are a Christian, you never die and you get eternal life forever.  Think of that!  You never die!  That is why I thank the Lord for every second, every minute, and day on this earth and every breath that I breathe.  I thank the Lord for everything that I see and for everything that I have.

“Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die.  Do you believe this?”

John 11:25-26

May the Holy Spirit be with you all!

Have a great rest of your day!

Ryan’s son

Amen son!  Short, sweet, and packed with powerful truth!  I love you buddy!

Grace and peace to you all!
