Digging Out Of The Storm

Well, we made it through the big blizzard yesterday and last night.  I have been shoveling snow for the last three hours, so I am going to post a few pictures, go eat lunch, then I am going to sit down and get my chill on.  My son helped me the whole time and he never complained once.  Thank you son!  You did a great job!

Our neighbors (right next door to us to the left in the photo above) just moved here from Texas and the wife got stuck backing out.  I said, “Uh oh, looks like she’s stuck, let’s go help.”  My son said, “Yes!  I’ve always wanted to do this!”  He was so excited to help dig her car out of the snow that he ran over to her.  We got her out too and my son was so excited and proud.  He got under those back tires like a little gopher and dug them out!  That was a lot of fun!

Those are the little sidewalk plows the low maintenance homes across the street benefit from.  We have to shovel the portion of sidewalk in front of our homes on our side because we have single family houses with driveways.  I would love to own one of those plows–so nice!

We got well over a foot of snow.  It snowed from early yesterday morning and didn’t stop until late last night.  It was definitely the biggest storm we have had in a long time.

We started shoveling around 9 a.m. and stopped at noon.  You can see our footprints where we ran over to help our neighbor.  The snow was thick, wet, and heavy.  I call it heart attack snow.  A lot of older guys have heart attacks when trying to shovel snow like this.  It’s best to go slow and remember, use your legs not your back.

And that’s how we get it done here in Colorado!  All the way to the street!  I am actually really encouraged because I just did three hours of hard cardio and I feel great!  I’m tired of course and I need to rest now, but my heart and lungs are strong despite Celiac.  My son and I prayed before we started and we committed the work to the Lord.  We asked for strength and I even asked the Lord to have angels help us lift the heavy snow.  I didn’t see any angels, but the work was smooth and efficient and we were strengthened for the task.  Maybe we did receive some help with the lifting too.  Many times they help us without us even knowing it.  Anything is possible with God!

“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men..”

Colossians 3:23

I quoted that verse to my son before we started shoveling and he just smiled and nodded.  He knew who he was serving and he was happy to do it.  Praise God!

Waves of Trouble

Hello everyone and God bless you all!  I am finally coming up for air!  Man, it’s been a long few weeks!  Our family has been dealing with a lot of illness this winter and it has been hard.  Sometimes life can feel like being stuck in the ocean suffering the onslaught of crashing waves.  Waves of trouble come one after another and they just won’t stop.  The enemy steps in and shoots his flaming arrows trying to knock you down.  Things go wrong and discouragement sets in.  Thank God for my shield of faith in Jesus and thank God He allows me to walk on water when I fix my eyes on Jesus!

My wife and kids are home today because of the big blizzard we are getting right now, so I have a chance to catch my breath.  Our daughter had strep two weeks ago and she was on antibiotics for ten days.  She took her last dose last Wednesday and she was feeling great, then she got sick again over the weekend.  She had already missed several days of school and she missed Monday and Tuesday of this week too.  I have been taking care of her.  Many of you know that I am unemployed due to Celiac, so I am like Mr. Mom.  I have been a stay at home Dad for many years now.  The good news is that our daughter is feeling better today and it is a blessing to have a snow day!

In the midst of the illness with our daughter, I have also been dealing with health issues.  I haven’t written a post since last Monday because of it.  On top of that, my upper right rib popped out again yesterday.  That happened to me a couple years ago while trying to lift some heavy boxes and now it is more susceptible to it.  My rib went back into place pretty quick, but it is discouraging and it hurts.  Celiac weakened my muscles and bones, so I have to be more careful now.  Oh yeah, and the springs on our garage door broke and I had to get that fixed.  We have had several rounds of bitter cold this winter and it cracked the springs.  Just one crazy trouble after another.

So, needless to say, I have been praying over all of these things a lot.  I have also been under attack spiritually while all of these troubles have been happening.  I have been in this ancient spiritual battle a long time and the evil one always attacks during times like this.  It’s just like a bully to kick someone while they are down.  I am a soldier, I expect it, and I am ready to defend it and fight back with the Word of God!

In the last week I have had four different women follow me on Twitter who were either partially naked from inappropriate clothing or totally naked in their profile picture.  They always say they are looking for a man and I blocked them all.  Let me say this right now.  I rebuke any such attack in the Name of Jesus!  I have my eyes fixed on The King and I am not falling for that nonsense!  If you follow me on Twitter and you are some kind of sexually immoral person, I am going to block you.  I actually tell my wife, show her what I’m dealing with, then I block you.  I will still pray for you, but a brother in Christ has to block garbage like that.  Sinful filth is the better term.

When you act like that, you just become a flaming arrow of the evil one and I have to whip out my shield of faith to defend myself.  I have been married for 17 years, I have two beautiful kids, and I am 40 years old.  Don’t send naked photos to me!  By the way, I looked at the list of people the last woman was following and it was almost all Christian men.  It is a straight up attack from the evil one and those women are being used by him to tear Christian men down.  Unfortunately, there were several of the men who followed her back.  Brothers in Christ, do not flirt with satan!  Run away from that sin!  Flee!  Run to the arms of Jesus every time and don’t look back!

Women, let me talk to you for a second.  Your worth does not come from what your body looks like.  If you are single and you post half naked or naked photos of yourself on the internet, you are going to attract men who are nothing but trouble.  That is not a way to find a good man.  That is a way to attract lustful men who will hurt and abuse you, then leave you in a broken mess of shame and regret.  You could also end up dead.  Your true worth is found in your Savior who loves you more than you can imagine.

It breaks my heart to see women so desperate for love that they are willing to prostitute themselves online to the world.  What your heart really wants is to be cherished as God cherishes you, and you are not going to find that posting photos of your chest, thighs, and booty on Twitter.  Jesus loves you.  Jesus died for you.  It is His love you need first.  After you receive Jesus, then you can pray to find a man who loves Jesus with all of his heart and be sure the first time you show him your body is on your wedding night.  Men who love Jesus are attracted to women who love Jesus and show their love for Jesus by dressing with purity and acting with purity.  Your hearts desire is to be cherished and loved, not to be used for your body.

Okay, moving on.  Through all of these troubles and attacks, the Lord has been speaking to me.  He spoke an encouraging word to me yesterday as I was praying for my daughter.  I was feeling dismayed and a bit distraught about a lot of things in my life and I was crying out.  He quieted my heart and I heard Him speak these three things to me:

“Keep moving forward.”

“Rest in Me.”

“Don’t give up.”

The day before that I had asked God what I was supposed to do with this blog and with Twitter.  I really wanted to shut down my Twitter account, but God showed me that would be like retreating in the face of battle and He is not calling me to retreat.  I was going to take a much longer break from the blog, but the Lord was calling me back here too.  I opened the Word and my eyes fell on 2 Timothy chapter 4.  After I read these verses, I was filled with great joy from the encouraging confirmation and answer to my prayers!

“In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge: Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage–with great patience and careful instruction.  For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine.  Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.  They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.  But you, keep your head in all situations, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, discharge all the duties of your ministry.”

2 Timothy 4:1-5

God’s answer couldn’t be anymore clear!  Freely I have received, so freely I give.  Just like Paul, the Lord fills us up and pours us out (2 Timothy 4:6), so that others can know the truth and be set free!  So, after all the trouble and all the attacks, I am simply going to do exactly what the Lord said.  I will preach the Word, I will be prepared, I will correct, rebuke, and encourage with prayers for wisdom to do so with great patience and careful instruction.  I must keep my head in all situations, endure hardship like a good soldier, work hard for the Lord as His evangelist, and discharge all the duties of this ministry He has given me.  I will keep moving forward, I will rest in Him, and I will not give up!  Amen!

I Need To Rest

Hello everyone.  I have been having a rough time with some health issues and I have been doing a lot of thinking and praying.  After much prayer over the weekend and all day today, it is evident that I simply need to rest.  I am going to take some time to deal with what my body needs to get better and I will be back soon.  I have turned off comments on my blog for now.  I will at least be taking this week off and I will not be writing posts or reading blogs during this time.  I will miss what all of you write about and I will jump right back in once I am better.  Thank you for your prayers!

Spring Encouragement

Welcome to March 2019 everyone!  God bless you all and happy Friday!  Spring is right around the corner!  Thought I would share the beautiful photo on my calendar for this month.  This is on the wall just to the left of my desk down here in my cozy den.  I love the encouraging word and Scripture this month and the warm Spring colors make me smile.

Amen!  That quote makes me think of 2 Corinthians 5:7.  God is calling us to step out in faith, but we have to choose to take that step and trust that He will pave the way.  May the Lord strengthen us to be faithful to His calling!

I love the Scripture from 2 Samuel 22:33 too!  My 1984 NIV Bible says:

“It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect.”

What a great encouragement!  When we walk by faith in Jesus, God gives us all the strength we need to follow His perfect will for our lives!

Rejoicing In Suffering

Good morning everyone!  It is a new and blessed day that we can rejoice in!  The kids are feeling great and off to school this morning and we have overcome yet another hardship through the power of the Lord.  God painted the sky beautifully this morning!  That photo is from our back deck looking due east towards the sunrise.  The Rockies are straight west from there to the right.  I was feeling pretty beat up this morning, but the Lord lifted me up when He showed me His glory in the sky!

When I opened the blinds there was a warm pink glow covering our neighborhood.  I stepped out onto the deck and I took a big deep breath of that crisp cool Rocky mountain air and it was so sweet and refreshing!  As I praised God and started snapping photos, my spirit was lifted and the discouragement from my beat up body melted away.

When I came downstairs to my office to download the photos and pray about what the Lord wanted me to write, the Lord spoke a word to my heart.  I was reading through some of the posts this morning and I read Phillip’s post about Job.  I wrote a post about Phillip titled “Powerful Testimony” last week.  He asked some questions at the end and one stood out: “How can you rejoice in your sufferings today?”

The Lord then spoke to my heart as He brought this Scripture to mind, “but we also rejoice in our sufferings.”

“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand.  And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God.  Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.  And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.”

Romans 5:1-5

The Lord comforted and encouraged me this morning with a wonderful sunrise.  I am rejoicing even now as I continue to deal with Celiac related health issues and pain.  The show the Lord put on this morning as He introduced the day was fantastic and awesome and my spirit was moved to praise Him!  Even in our sufferings we rejoice!

I can feel His love poured out into my heart and His hope never fades!  May His will be done as He molds us and helps us grow.  May He produce the kind of perseverance and character He wants in us as He strengthens our hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.  Thank You Jesus, in Your Name, amen!

Whatever you are going through right now, don’t give up!  Give it to God!  Lay it down at the foot of the cross and He will lift you up!  Our hope in Jesus will never disappoint us and by His power we can overcome our sufferings and rejoice in Him!

Resting In Christ’s Power

Hello everyone!  Thank you all for praying for our kids!  Both kids are feeling great, praise God!  Our daughter is back to school and our son is staying home with me today just to give him one more day of rest.  They will both be back to school like normal tomorrow.

I would like to send out another prayer request.  I wasn’t going to talk about it because I am tired of talking about my health issues, but things have been turning for the worst for me.  I have been suffering from some problems related to Celiac.  I won’t get into the details, but I need prayer for healing for it.  Celiac also weakened my muscles and bones, so when I do physical things like shoveling snow I can hurt myself a lot easier.  I think I did something to my lower back last time I shoveled snow because it has been hurting like never before.  It hurt so bad this morning, I could barely walk to the bathroom when I got out of bed.  I am exhausted and the issues and my back have been getting worse over the last couple weeks.

I am only 40, but a lot of the time I feel like a young man in an old man’s body.  Celiac really messed me up and the disease is way worse than most people know.  It goes way deeper than gluten free.  Sometimes I get discouraged and deal with the anxiety having a chronic illness causes.  After I turned 40 last summer, I started thinking a lot about what it is going to be like for me when I am old since my body is so broken (if I make it to old age, God willing).  I have to constantly give that worry to God or else it crushes me.

I’m just not as strong as I used to be or should be at my age and that bothers me a lot.  I wish my kids could have seen me healthy and strong.  I give my weaknesses to God and ask Him for strength.  I am asking for healing once again even though every time I ask I hear the Lord tell me, “My grace is sufficient for you.”  I am coming before Him again and approaching the throne of grace with freedom and confidence.  His answer might still be no, but I need prayers for healing.  Please Lord Jesus, heal the issues that Celiac has caused and is causing to my body and please heal my back, amen.

When I am weak, I am strong!  Thank you for your prayers!

May the power of Jesus rest on us and may we rest in His power!

Even In Illness

Hello everyone and God bless you!  Yesterday was a busy day, and I wasn’t able to write a post.  I took my daughter to the doctor and they are treating her for strep.  She is on antibiotics now.  Our son started feeling sick last night, so he is home today as well.  I hope and pray he doesn’t get strep.  He threw up this morning, but he still doesn’t have a fever.  As you can see, they are snuggled up watching Netflix this morning.  I appreciate that many of you have asked about them and thank you all for your prayers!  They will be better soon in the Name of Jesus!

Through the power and encouragement Jesus gives us through the Holy Spirit, even in illness, we can still say:

“This is the day the Lord

has made;

let us rejoice and be glad

in it.”

Psalm 118:24

Pierce The Darkness

Good morning everyone.  My little girl woke me up a little before 5 a.m. because she had a fever again and wasn’t feeling good.  We came downstairs so I could take care of her, and when I pulled the blinds we saw a beautiful blanket of fresh snow.  It is a very still and snowy Rocky Mountain morning.  Thought all of you might like to see some photos, so I snapped a few with my phone.  Enjoy and God bless you all!

Praise God for our road crews who get up early to keep our roads clear and safe!  We live in the rolling hills above our town and the roads are like the foothills up here.  We need ’em and God bless ’em!

The Callahan backyard. We back up to an open space. I planted all the trees. I planted the two big Austrian Pine trees 12 years ago when they were smaller than the little one in the middle. They grow 1 foot every year.  Soon he will be as big as his brothers.

The tree to the right of the big pine is a service berry bush.  It blooms beautiful pink flowers in the Spring.  The little sparrows love that tree.  The squirrels love the pine trees.

That’s my little girl resting on the couch with her Teddy bear she named Teddi.  I bought it for her at the Denver University gift shop when she was 1 year old.  She is 11 now and she has slept with her every night since then.  She was running a 100.5 fever this morning and feels achy in the head and throat.  Thank you for praying for her.  I know she will be better very soon.  We love you sweetheart!

Take Jesus At His Word

Hello everyone!  Happy Friday and God bless you all!  Our daughter is home sick today with a cold, so I have been taking care of her and we have been having fun watching that funny cooking show “Nailed It!” on Netflix.  The version in Mexico is great too.  Your prayers for our daughter are appreciated.  I want to write today about taking Jesus at His Word.  Jesus said some very powerful and amazing things while He was on earth and He is trustworthy.  You either trust Jesus Christ for your salvation or you don’t.  You either believe what He said or you don’t.  There is no middle ground.  We are saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone, not by works, and Jesus made that very clear.  So, let’s hear what Jesus has to say.  He is the perfect atoning sacrifice for our sins and He is completely and perfectly trustworthy to take Him at His Word.

Here are just a few of the powerful, amazing, and soul saving words Jesus said:

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.  Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.”

John 3:16-18

“Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst.  Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Jesus couldn’t be any more clear!  We are saved through faith in him alone!  He died for us to be forgiven and justified before God and He meant it when He said, “It is finished.”  That is why the Apostle Paul wrote what he did in Romans 3:21-28, Romans 5:1-11, Romans 6:23, Romans 7:24, Romans 8:1-2, Romans 10:9-13, Ephesians 1:13-14, Ephesians 2:8-9, Galatians 2:11-21 and 3:1-5, and Philippians chapter 3.  We are utterly sinful and wretched and only Jesus Christ can save us from this body of death!  We are not perfect and we struggle with sin, but praise God we are being made perfect by the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit and we are saved through the Blood of Jesus!  If we fall, the Lord is there to discipline us and lift us up again (Hebrews 12:1-12).  We are still saved, but we need to turn from sin and keep pressing on to take hold of that for which Christ took hold of us as Paul said (Philippians 3:12-14).

“This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe.  There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.”

Romans 3:22-24

Once you believe in Jesus Christ, nothing can snatch you out of His hand just as He promised!  Believers in Jesus, you are sealed by the Holy Spirit and your salvation is guaranteed through your faith in Jesus (Ephesians 1:13-14)!  There is no amount of good works we could ever do before or after accepting Jesus that would save us.  Remember this simple phrase, “Jesus Saves!”  He is the only One who ever died for your sins to be forgiven and reconcile you with God.

“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.  The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.  I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!”

Galatians 2:20-21

“Where, then, is boasting?  It is excluded.  On what principle?  On that of observing the law?  No, but on that of faith.  For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.”

Romans 3:27-28

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God–not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Ephesians 2:8-9

There is no boasting as we follow Jesus.  We are not working for our salvation as if God should repay us.  We are saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus and you either accept that precious gift of God or you reject it.  You either trust in Jesus fully for your salvation or you don’t.  When you believe in Jesus, you cross over from death to life and whoever comes to Him He will never drive away!  He will raise you up at the last day!  There is no reason to fear God’s perfect love.  Once you belong to Jesus, you belong to Him forever!

“We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.  And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.  If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God.  And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.  God is love.  Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him.  In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him.  There is no fear in love.  But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.  The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”

1 John 4:13-18

It is my calling to point you to Jesus.  Read all those words of Jesus again.  Those are His words, and He is the only One who ever spoke them into existence.  Jesus is trustworthy.  Will you take Him at His Word?  I pray you do and you would enjoy and rest in the grace and peace He offers you!

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ.  Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?  As it is written:

“For your sake we face

death all day long;

we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.”

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.  For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Romans 8:35-39

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.  I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

Jesus speaking in John 14:27

Amen!  Take Jesus at His Word and trust Him!  He is the lover of your soul!

An Ancient Prayer of Power & Love

Hello everyone!  I was reading in Ephesians this morning and the prayer that Paul prayed for the believers in Ephesus really stood out.  I love praying the prayers in the Bible and there is true power in doing that!  It is an incredible blessing that we can read prayers that were written and prayed two millennia ago and still receive the power of those prayers in our time!  So today, I am praying this prayer for all of you.  For those of you who know Jesus and for those of you who have not yet come to Him.  Jesus loves you and He proved it by dying for you!  Nothing is impossible for God and He can do so much more than all we can ask or imagine!  May you receive this ancient blessing with an open heart and may the Lord’s will be done!

“For this reason I kneel before the Father, from whom his whole family in heaven and on earth derives its name.  I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.  And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge–that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever!  Amen.”

Ephesians 3:14-21

And Amen!!!  Boom!  I’m excited to see how the Lord answers that one!
