These four verses are some of the most famous words of Jesus in the Bible. I love the answer Jesus gives the Pharisees in this scene from Matthew 22. The Pharisees and Sadducees had been trying to trap Jesus all day with what they thought were very hard and tricky questions, but His answers were so powerful that they ended up amazed, astonished, and silent. Today, I want to focus on loving the Lord with all our minds. To all the thinkers out there, Jesus wants you to love Him with all your mind too! Having faith in Jesus does not mean you check your mind at the door!
“When they heard this, they were amazed. So they left him and went away.”
Matthew 22:22
“When the crowds heard this, they were astonished at his teaching.”
Matthew 22:33
“No one could say a word in reply, and from that day on no one dared to ask him any more questions.”
Matthew 22:46
There are many people who wrestle God with their minds. Some even consider themselves smarter than God. They find themselves much too intelligent to ever believe in God and they think people of faith have checked their minds at the door. Let me just say, I believe in Jesus and the Lord gave me a highly inquisitive mind. I never checked my mind at the door and Jesus never wanted me to. He tells us to love Him with all our heart, soul, and mind.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning
of wisdom,
and knowledge of the Holy One is
understanding.”
Proverbs 9:10
What does it mean to love the Lord with all your mind? Just what it sounds like. Give Him all your thoughts and questions about Him. Give Him your frustrations and misunderstandings. Ask Him anything you want! Nothing you ask will ever be too hard for the Lord. I have many questions that I talk with the Lord about. Some of those questions are hard and I struggle with them at times. The Lord just keeps on loving me and He always guides me in the truth. Don’t be afraid to Love the Lord with all your mind. He loves you and He wants you to love Him with all your mind.
“In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.”
Ephesians 3:12
Do you ever wrestle God with your mind? Coming to Jesus does not mean you need to give up reason or your questions. There is plenty of proof that everything written in God’s Word is true, including the Old Testament stories and the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. My own testimony proves that Jesus is alive and that everything the Bible says about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, angels, and demons is all true! I have discussed much of this proof on my blog. If you were reading my blog at Christmastime, then you learned about much of the archeological evidence that exists, including the writings of ancient historians. Many of you also know that I talked about the artifacts from Pharaoh’s army that are sitting on the bottom of the Gulf of Aqaba in the Red Sea. I love the Lord with all my mind and I dig deep into learning the truth of His Word and the evidence that confirms it!
The Darkness, The Torn Curtain, The Earthquake, & The Empty Tombs
If you are having a hard time with questions you have about God, I encourage you to seek Him and ask Him everything you want to ask. Don’t let it burn inside your mind. Give it to the Lord! Love the Lord with all your mind and seek Him first. He will show you the truth!
“Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.”
Jeremiah 32:17
There is no philosophy of man that is greater than the Lord. There are no questions He can’t answer and there are no questions that He has not already heard. Many of us have the same questions about life and death and we struggle with them. I can say with all my heart, soul, and mind that the Bible has all the answers we need! Come to Jesus with all your heart, soul, and mind! I know you will find His answers just as amazing and astonishing as they were almost 2,000 years ago!
Grace and peace to you all!
“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
John 14:6
Indeed, God designed and created our minds to bring Him glory.

Just this morning I was serving at our local food bank and a professed Christian came in steaming about somebody who was in the food bank that happened to be an apparent Transgender. He was spewing hateful comments and becoming an issue. I simply asked him…. What is Gods greatest commandment? Yes! God gave me the conviction to ask him what he needed to hear at the right time! Thank you for a great elaboration on these powerful verses.

Amen, Ryan! Jesus is our best friend in this world! He does want our mind, heart, and soul…he loves us, and wants us to be where he is when our time comes. Opening up to Jesus and having those meaningful conversations blesses us in so many ways. Jesus gives us spiritual strength and knowledge that we are loved and cared for, in this life and for eternity. Jesus wants us to take his hand and hold on to Him! He is our best friend, our beautiful Lord and Savior. Hallelujah! You wrote another wonderful teaching, Ryan!

Thanks you this was very thought provoking and you are 100% right, our whole mind. It is hard to focus sometimes when I have a running list going on in my brain. I need to just stop and do it!

great post, Ryan 🙂 what we ‘think’ (mind) about the Lord surely determines whether we will obey His Word.

Thanks, Ryan. This brings to mind an exchange I once had with a Roman Catholic. We were debating if the Bible teaches salvation by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone vs. the RCC’s gospel of salvation via sacramental grace and merit. The passage in the three Gospels where Jesus quotes Deuteronomy 6:5 “And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength” was brought up. The individual claimed that he successfully obeyed that prime commandment. I was almost speechless.

So sad they don’t understand that they are saved by grace through faith in Jesus alone. So very sad. I pray he comes to a knowledge of the truth and is set free! God bless!

This is probably the fourth time in the past few days my attention has been directed to the verse of loving God with all your heart, soul, and mind….I definitely need the reminder to love my neighbor as myself!!! God is definitely trying to speak to me as I’ve dealt with a difficult person in my life the past month and I just need to remember to love this person just like Jesus would!
