Another School Shooting In My State

News
KDVR Denver News

I have been watching the news for the last couple hours.  We had another school shooting here in Colorado and it was very close to where we live.  This is in our county and in our school district and it is very hard to hear this news.  The school my wife teaches at and our kids attend was put on lock down as well as other schools in our district.  The shooting happened at a K-12 S.T.E.M. charter school in Highlands Ranch, which is about 15 minutes west of us.  They said they have two shooters in custody and they are still looking for a third (as of 3:40 MDT).  There are multiple kids (at least 7 confirmed now) who have been injured and some of them were taken to the hospital right up the street where our kids were born.  We don’t know the ages of the kids or the extent of the injuries.  Please pray for all the kids who were injured and please pray for our community.  Douglas County is a great place to live and we have a very low crime rate here.  This is a very bad day for our community and I pray the Lord brings peace and healing to all those who were injured.

There is a lot I want to say about this shooting and the state of the world in our time, but now is not the time.  Now is the time to lift this tragedy up to God in prayer.

“…The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.”

James 5:16

God bless you all

  1. Prayers to you and your family. I assist in an elementary school in a very good neighborhood but police have demonstrated lock down drills and have insisted that we really take these shootings seriously…the number of threats police receive in school districts are overwhelming. We have to look over our shoulder.

    1. Thank you for your prayers! Yes, we always take every threat seriously here in Colorado. We just had that girl from Florida running around with a gun threatening our schools a few weeks ago and they closed all the schools in the Denver metro. At my wife and kid’s school, there is a security officer on site who was a former Marine and he has guns at the school to deal with threats. I’m really glad he is there. God bless you!

  4. I got this as a breaking news alert on my local news app earlier today. My heart goes out to all the victims and my prayers are with them and their families. This is so scary! I’m so blessed to be able to homeschool our daughter. This is just happening way too much!

    1. Thanks Michelle. I was just telling my wife that the people who homeschool don’t need to worry about this. It has happened way too much here in Colorado. I’m glad my wife teaches at the same school our kids attend and I’m glad they have armed security there. The school in Highlands Ranch did not have security. The news just said that one of the victims, an 18 year old male, just died at the hospital. I am praying for his parents and family. This has been a very sad day. Thanks for your prayers. God bless you

    1. Thank you sister! There were several people my wife knew whose kids went to school there and they are okay, thank God. One of the teachers my wife works with just ran out of the school when he heard the news yesterday because his kids go there. Thank you for your prayers. God bless you

  6. This post stirs up questions in me I desire clarity about
One , why is it so hard to figure out that the ubiquity of guns is a problem
Two, why has so many Ministries Christianize guns ? What does it have to do with Christ ?
    Am scratching my head

    1. The Bible says that love always protects and we have the right to protect our families. That’s what it’s about. Guns are not the problem, sin is. There is nothing wrong with a Christian owning a gun and there is nothing wrong with a Christian protecting his family. Righteous men should be willing to lay down their lives to protect others.
