A Beautiful Sunday

Rocky Mountain Sunday Morning January 13, 2019 8:42 a.m.

Hello everyone!  God bless you all!  Many of you know that I like using my good Canon PowerShot camera and I take a lot of photos just about every day.  At times, I’m kind of like a photography blogger.  I suppose I’m a writing, picture taking, Gospel preaching blogger for Jesus!  My Mom was really into photography when I was growing up and she would always take us up to cool places in the mountains to take pictures.  She is still really into photography and she is great at it on a professional level!  Those of you who read my post about our sledding day Saturday know that we had a great weekend.  We also had a lot of fun on Sunday!  The kids made their snowmen and we also took them to see the new “Mary Poppins Returns” movie.  The movie was actually quite good.  Cute and clean with a good message about faith.  Cool message about believing and not giving up hope.  The songs and dancing were good too.  I promised the kids that I would do a post showing their snowman and snowgirl, so here you go kids, I love you!  I also want to share some other photos I took from Sunday and a few from Monday and today.

First, check out this cool hawk that was just chillin’ on our back fence Sunday morning.  The hawks love to hunt the open space behind our house.  We are very thankful for them because they eat the mice and snakes of which we have dealt with both.  I chased a little mouse out of the garage a couple months ago and I’ve killed snakes in the backyard and even the garage.  One hissed and lunged at my wife’s legs as we were coming into the garage a couple summers ago.  Thankfully it missed her.  I chopped it with a shovel and that was that.  I prefer the hawks get them!

Look at those eyes!  Such a cool bird of prey!  Praise God!

Here is what it looked like that morning around 8:42 a.m. just after I took the pictures of the hawk:

Okay kids, here come your pictures!  The next photos were taken between 11 a.m. and 12 noon Sunday.  The sun is so bright here and the skies are so blue because we live at high altitude.  Denver sits at 5,280 feet hence the name “Mile High City.”  Our home sits at 6,115 feet about 20 minutes southeast of the city.  The air is thinner here in Colorado.  That’s why everyone is so chill.  It’s just like the Sherpa folks in Nepal.  You adapt to the thin air and your body chills out to conserve oxygen.  Also, when we get fresh snow, it is incredible how bright the reflection is.  It is blinding and you have to wear dark sunglasses.  With or without snow you need sunglasses here every day.  My kids wear their snowboard gear and goggles when playing in the snow.  We get serious UV rays here and I have seen many vacationers with sun burns because they didn’t put any sunscreen on while skiing.  Big tip: When coming to Colorado to ski or ride, please bring sunglasses and sunscreen!  And drink plenty of water!  The high altitude and dry air are hard on your body when you are not used to it (just watch the opposing team on the sidelines huffing oxygen when they play the Broncos here in Denver).  You’ll thank me later!

A little park called “Spring Fawn Park” in the open space. The kids love rock hopping over there. We just jump our back fence and head over.

Oh, and one more thing!  I’m glad you guys enjoyed the Mary Poppins Returns movie.  That was fun!  Here is a movie poster for you!  Love, Dad

Now I would like to show you some pictures I took on Monday and this morning.  The first set are of the local family of deer that live in our neighborhood.  Can you guess why they call the open space Spring Fawn Park?  I took these photos around 7:28 a.m on Monday morning.

Look at those thick winter coats.  They stay nice and warm because the Lord cares for them too.

The next set of photos I took this morning between 7:36 and 7:48 a.m. as the sun was coming up.

The sun is up now and shining brightly in the bright blue sky.  Here is what it looks like right now from our back deck (looks like it did on Sunday).  I just took this photo at 11:13 a.m, Mountain time of course.

I truly hope and pray you are blessed and encouraged in this beautiful day the Lord has made and I pray we would all rejoice and be glad in it!

Grace and peace to you all!

  1. Love the hawk. Our hawks are brown here in Louisiana. We even have snow once a year, maybe. lol Plenty of alligators too. I would love to see Pike’s Peak. Friends went and were amazed at such beauty. I live 55miles from Gulf of Mexico. We get RAIN.:) Our marshes are lovely. My Grandson likes photography. Your family is wonderful and to have a Loving and Godly father is so rare these days. Love in our Christ Jesus.

    1. Thank you so much! I appreciate your kind words! I have never been to Louisiana, but I did swim in the Gulf of Mexico in Port Aransas, Texas when I was a kid. Got the whole experience when we saw a shark in the water with us! Saw the fin come toward us and go under the water just like Jaws! Thank God we made it to shore! You would love Colorado, hope you get to visit someday. God bless you!

  2. These are great! We are in Castle Rock and have almost that great view of Pikes Peak… on. a clear day it’s amazing. Love our sun and our deer as well… when I’ve had to live in different places (Germany, Chicago) I have a total meltdown because they don’t get as much big bright sun as we do. We really are blessed here!

    1. Cool, we love Castle Rock! We like going to that big antique shop in the old barn called “The Barn.” We also camp and fish near Deckers, so we cut through Castle Rock and Sedalia and head into the mountains from there. I went to High School 35 miles west of Chicago in St. Charles! The winters are brutal compared to here! I can’t stand the lack of sun. I agree, we are truly blessed here in CO! God bless! P.S. We get mountain lions and bears coming through sometimes too!

    2. By the way, we live in Parker in the rolling hills above the town on the east side. The main picture for my blog of the front range was taken from Daniel’s Park in Castle Rock. We love hiking around up there! So thankful to live here! I grew up in Littleton near Federal Blvd. and went to college at UNC. Go Bears! That’s where I met my wife. God bless!

      1. So beautiful! We drive Daniels Park every day… I always tell my boys never take for granted where you live because most places do NOT look like this! Who gets to see bison and elk on their way to school?! I grew up in Aurora and met my husband at CU Boulder, but we high tailed it out of there and went to Baylor.

  3. Great photos! It makes me feel happy just looking at your beautiful snowy mountain views.

Our WiFi is crazy slow here, so all that came up on my tablet are just the first nine pictures. I will try again later, on my laptop.

I live in New Mexico. I love taking pictures here, too. 😀

  5. It was so sweet to see pictures of the kids building their snowmen! They sure did a great job. A perfect sun-filled day to play in the snow, that’s what makes having winter so special…many childhood memories were certainly made over the week end in your family! Thank you for the nice compliment, too, Ryan, on my photography! I’m hoping we both can grab our cameras and go picture taking this summer, that would be so cool!! I”d love to do that with you. Your view of Pikes Peak this morning was glorious, what a beautiful way to start the day. And, the hawk was so pretty, it sure was fluffed up…loved the sparkling snow in the background you captured, too. Beautiful area you live in, the open space is full of deer, turkeys, and little critters. My day is blessed, too, as I am mindful of Jesus in my life and my family, who I love so much and who give me so much happiness! Thanks for this great post! Love you, Ryan.

    1. Thanks, amen, we needed it! The kids have a 4 day weekend this weekend with Friday and Monday MLK day off. We are taking them to the National Western Stock Show in Denver on Sunday. Going to the Wild West Show. We are also praying about and planning a vacation to California in July! I am so thankful for the blessings and relief from the suffering. Praise God! God bless!

  6. Had to visit your photographs on this post…..great pics…love the Hawk. Love the mountains!! You guys have a great view of Pike’s Peak. When my wife’s sister was alive, she lived down in the Springs…love Colorado Springs and the view of Pike’s Peak from the base of the mountain. Our time in Colorado was Northwest Suburbs of Denver…Arvada when we moved…had a great view of Longs Peak. Love the front range and having grown up in Iowa, winters in Denver were great compared to the bitter, bitter cold of the midwest. Have a great week Ryan….God bless!

    1. Thanks Kirt! The Springs is cool. I grew up in Littleton. We live in Parker. Long’s Peak is awesome! I climbed and summited Long’s in the summer of ’98. I turned 20 that summer. I agree, the winters here are great compared to the bitter Midwest winters. Chicago is so cold! I prefer the sunshine and blue skies! Blessings!
