The Lord is showing me verses about the human heart today. He is most likely doing that because I don’t feel like writing today and I am feeling pretty angry about many things, but I give my heart to God because our hearts play tricks on us. Our hearts are fickle aren’t they? Our hearts deceive us and we need to constantly give our hearts to God to keep our hearts healthy. I am talking about our spiritual hearts and the Bible has a lot to say about that. So, today, the Lord wants me to share some Scriptures about the heart.
The number one thing you need to remember about your heart is that it lies to you.
“The heart is deceitful above
all things
and beyond cure.
Who can understand it?
Jeremiah 17:9
God does not look at our outward appearance. He looks at our hearts:
“I the Lord search the
heart
and examine the mind,
to reward a man according
to his conduct,
according to what his
deeds deserve.”
Jeremiah 17:10
“…The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
1 Samuel 16:7
Jesus said you will find your heart in what you treasure:
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
Matthew 6:19-21
In Proverbs, Solomon told us to trust in the Lord with all of our hearts:
“Trust in the Lord with all
your heart
and lean not on your own
understanding;
in all your ways
acknowledge him,
and he will make your
paths straight.”
Proverbs 3:5-6
Solomon also encouraged us to guard our hearts because it holds our very life:
“Above all else, guard your
heart,
for it is the wellspring of
life.”
Proverbs 4:23
Jesus told us that our mouth will speak out of what is stored up in our hearts:
“The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.”
Luke 6:45
Our hearts also reflect who we are:
“As water reflects a face,
so a man’s heart reflects
the man.”
Proverbs 27:19
Solomon’s father King David prayed a beautiful prayer that is crucial to a healthy heart that pleases God:
“Create in me a pure heart,
O God,
and renew a steadfast
spirit within me.”
Psalm 51:10
In Psalm 37:4, David teaches us a very important promise regarding the heart:
“Delight yourself in the
Lord
and he will give you the
desires of your heart.”
Psalm 37:4
It is also important to pray this prayer from David, so that the desires of our hearts are pleasing to God:
“May the words of my
mouth and the
meditation of my heart
be pleasing in your sight,
O Lord, my Rock and my
Redeemer.”
Psalm 19:14
Solomon also encourages us to write two very specific righteous qualities on our hearts that come with a strong promise that we should all desire:
“Let love and faithfulness
never leave you;
bind them around your
neck,
write them on the tablet
of your heart.
Then you will win favor and
a good name
in the sight of God and
man.”
Proverbs 3:3-4
David teaches us to number our days righteously, so that our hearts will be wise:
“Teach us to number our
days aright,
that we may gain a heart
of wisdom.”
Psalm 90:12
Jesus told us to not let our hearts be troubled because He has given us His peace:
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
John 14:27
Jesus also gave us a powerful promise regarding our hearts:
“Blessed are the pure in
heart,
for they will see God.”
Matthew 5:8
The Apostle Paul gives us very practical ways to guard our hearts in Jesus:
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:4-7
Out of our hearts we praise the Lord and tell the world about Him!
“I will praise you, O Lord,
with all my heart;
I will tell of all your
wonders.”
Psalm 9:1
The Lord made a bold promise to Jeremiah that we should all remember:
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
Jeremiah 29:13
David said we are blessed when we seek the Lord in that way:
“Blessed are they who keep
his statutes
and seek him with all their
heart.”
Psalm 119:2
Jesus told us clearly how we should love God with our hearts:
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'”
Matthew 22:37-39
Remember, our hearts are deceitful, so give your hearts to God! Pray these Scriptures over your heart and be blessed in the power of the Holy Spirit! Amen!
“Be strong and take heart,
all you who hope in the
Lord.”
Psalm 31:24
May our hearts be strengthened and encouraged in the love, grace, mercy, peace, and forgiveness of Jesus Christ!
Grace and peace to you all!
Praying for you, Ryan. 🙂
